Real sustainability includes the wearer.
We are not a brand that discovered sustainability language because it is effective marketing. We are doctors who understand what goes into the body — and what should not.
Sustainability Principle 1: Skin-Forward Materials First
If a material does not feel exceptional against skin, it does not pass. A garment that causes discomfort is not sustainable — regardless of how it was sourced. Discomfort leads to shorter garment lifecycles, more frequent replacement, and more waste. We start with skin because skin is where clothing lives.
Sustainability Principle 2: Durability as Sustainability
Garments built to outlast trends and rough wash cycles. Our fabrics are tested to endure 200+ high-temperature medical washes without losing integrity, softness, or antimicrobial performance. A garment that lasts three years is more sustainable than one that lasts six months — whatever it's made of.
Sustainability Principle 3: Honest Sourcing
Natural and low-impact blends only — Tencel™, organic cotton, eucalyptus fiber, bamboo-derived viscose, responsible wool blends — over greenwashed synthetics. We tell you exactly what each garment is made from and why we chose it. No euphemisms. No "eco-performance fiber" without a name behind it.
Sustainability Principle 4: No Performative Claims
Pleaura communicates what materials actually are — not what they aspirationally represent. We do not use the word "eco" as a modifier that replaces an explanation. We do not badge garments with certifications we don't hold. We do not call something sustainable because it is less harmful than the worst option.
Impact Metrics We Measure Ourselves Against
Microplastics per wash
Plant-derived fibers shed only cellulose — biodegradable and non-toxic to aquatic ecosystems.
Medical washes per garment lifecycle
Designed to last. Less frequent replacement = less production = less waste.
Plant-derived fibers in every garment
No synthetic petroleum-derived content in any Pleaura product.
